The Summer 2009 Anime Season has started, which means several new shows to choose from to blog. First up is Aoi Hana. I’m not sure if I’ll continue, but the show is enjoyable enough that I’ll at least give the second episode a chance.

Fumi, Akira's childhood friend, always cries.
Aoi Hana has a fairly interesting story: Fumi Manjome and Akira Okudaira were best friends in their childhood. Fumi was a crybaby, so Akira always looked after her. This friendship sadly came to an abrupt end when Fumi’s family moved away. Several years in the future, Fumi’s family has returned and Fumi and Akira encounter each other and once again become best friends. Soon, Fumi begins dating a cool, attractive upperclassman named Yasuko Sugimoto who coincidentally has ties to Akira’s current school, the prestigious Fujigaya Girls Academy.

The OP, 「青い花」 (Aoi Hana) by 空気公団 (Kuukikoudan), was fairly good, though not something I’m going to still have in my head an hour from now. Perhaps it will grow on me.

Fumi and Akira run into each other, though don't yet recognize each other.
The first episode, as per usual, introduces the above story, with Fumi and Akira running into each other, though not knowing it until a bit later in the episode. Fumi finds out that her cousin, Chizu, is getting married, which is quite surprising to Fumi, since she has feelings for Chizu.
The ED, 「センティフォリア」 (Senteforia) by Ceui, was kind of boring, but not intolerable. I might skip over it in the future.

Overall the anime is off to a good start. Hopefully it gets better in time, not worse.
